Fastnet Farm Sheep
Like the Belted Galloway, Lleyn sheep are well adapted for life on Cape Clear Island. Their high quality wool keeps them warm and protected during harsh storms. They are intelligent and always find suitable protection behind walls and ditches. Once a year they come into the shed for a few weeks during lambing. They are always eager to get back outside and show their lambs around the pastures!
We practice rotational grazing so the sheep don't overgraze pastures. They love to forage on a variety of grasses but most of all they love the mix of red and white cloves, wild blackberry and a variety of other wild forbs. This diverse diet of plants enhances their health and meat quality.
We believe that animals with proper nutrition are healthier and more productive. We try very hard to make sure our sheep receive the right amount of vitamins and minerals to decrease the need for synthetic anti-parasitic medications and other diseases commonly associated with sheep.
